The winds of change blew into The Carnival of Carnage, as Universal's Halloween Horror Nights™ began to go into a completely new direction. Constantly reinventing itself, the Art & Design Team partnered closely with Intellectual Property powerhouse New Line Cinema. This year saw a clash of the three killers infused into the event. Jack presented a carnival, complete with interactive website returning, and Freddy, Leatherface, and Jason each got a show-running Haunted House.

Event Facts

  • 2007 was not the first time the title "Carnival of Carnage" had been used at a Halloween Horror Nights™ event. In 1992, the first Halloween Horror Nights™ at Universal Studios Hollywood, a Scare Zone was titled the "Carnival of Carnage."
  • A portrait of the Storyteller could be found amongst portraits inside "Dead Silence: The Curse of Mary Shaw". The same portrait was used in "Halloween Horror Nights™: Sweet 16" inside the "Dungeon of Terror".
  • Several props from the "Back to the Future" attraction could be found in both "Psychoscareapy: Home for the Holidays", and "Dead Silence: The Curse of Mary Shaw". Primarily the huge number of clocks throughout “Psychoscareapy”, as well as a desk found in Mary Shaw's workshop.
  • In the fireplace scene of “Psychoscareapy: Home for the Holidays”, a portrait of Doc Brown's children sitting in front of the Clock Tower can be found inside of an actor's boo-hole.
  • Universal licensed official horror movie icons - Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, and Leatherface - from New Line Cinema. While this was the first time the named characters could be spotted at the event, all three of them were featured together (in likeness) in the original "All Nite Die-In" from "Halloween Horror Nights™ 13".
  • “Carnival of Carnage” featured one giant Scare Zones rather than several small ones with different themes. This centralized the overall "Carnival" theme of the event to make it consistent and cohesive.
  • To add to the area, a full-sized Ferris Wheel was installed in front of “Men in Black Alien Attack!”, Scareactors drove around in bumper cars, and the motorcycles used at the event were modified to look like crazed carousel horses.
  • The original title of “Psychoscareapy: Home for the Holidays” was “Silent Night, Psychotic Night”. Last minute name changes are not uncommon for the event, however, one of the T-Shirts for this year’s event was printed with the “Silent Night, Psychotic Night” title on it.
  • “The Thing: Assimilation” is based off and serves as a continuation of John Carpenter's 1982 film “The Thing”. Universal had planned on creating this house many times in the past but did not execute the house until the film's 25th anniversary.
  • This was the first year Halloween Horror Nights™ featured a stage show version of the “Rocky Horror Picture” show.
  • This was the first year Halloween Horror Nights™ had custom music composed for the event by legendary creators Midnight Syndicate.
  • 2007 marks the first time Scareactors would roam the front gate of Universal Studios Florida during the event.

This was my first HHN and my first haunt event ever. And it succeeded in what it set out to do, which was to completely scare the living daylights out of me. It's because of this event that I stopped being a coward and became a braver person in life as well as a creature of the night.
