Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees returned after a surprisingly brief hiatus with mazes based on attempts to reinvigorate their respective franchises. Neither of the movies worked as intended, but the mazes were close enough to their original incarnations to pass muster. The only truly recycled maze was a Saw hold-over from 2009, but guests loved it enough the second time that they still demanded a third on surveys.
The T2-3D extended queue was put to use this year, bringing the number of scratch-built mazes up to four. The space would be occupied by House of 1000 Corpses, returning in event-first 3-D a decade after its last appearance. 2010 would also mark the only year that Universal’s House of Horrors received an original overlay not connected to a licensed property.
