With the closure of T2-3D and the Hogwarts expansion already greenlit, Universal Studios Hollywood had to get creative with its layout. 2012 featured three mazes on the Upper Lot, not counting the existing House of Horrors. 2013 only found room for one, in the makeshift Parisian Courtyard space. The two evicted mazes were built in a tent and small soundstage on the backlot and connected to the park proper by a path beside Transformers: The Ride 3-D.
The new locations were here to stay, along with production company Blumhouse, making its Halloween Horror Nights™ Hollywood debut with Insidious: Into the Further and a scarezone based on The Purge. Black Sabbath succeeded Alice Cooper as the event’s resident rockstar. Another original maze based on Hispanic folklore, El Cucuy: The Boogeyman, followed the previous years’ La Llorona appearances, though it would be the last maze of its kind.
