With The Walking Dead quietly confined to their own year-round haunted house, American Horror Story took over as the white-hot headliner, but the difference was in the back-up. Few horror movies are as notorious than The Exorcist and fewer still last decades as short-hand for unimaginable, cinematic terror. They did get the four biggest slashers in the business together for the first year ever. Freddy, Jason, Leatherface, and Michael Myers returned in fan favorite mazes. Krampus, the only modern tie-in besides American Horror Story, hit the horror-comedy sweet spot. Even the Terror Tram found new fans, courtesy of an original story from filmmaker Eli Roth.
