This year saw the introduction of the immensely popular up-charge Hotel Albert. Set in a luxury hotel during the golden age, Hotel Albert was labeled as a 90-minute “immersive theatrical horror experience” in which an intricate story unfolded around you, similar to a "murder mystery theater." Also new this year was Silence in the Ghost Ship, a haunted maze which demanded silence.
Universal Studios Japan has always offered two types of Halloween entertainment running simultaneously under the same admission ticket – one being a family-oriented Halloween experience (generally ending at dusk when the zombies come out) and the other being the more mature Halloween Horror Nights™. Universal decided to extend the family-friendly offerings into the nighttime by introducing Universal Wonderland Kowa Kawa Night, a “safe zone” that is decorated with Halloween lights and offering a festive atmosphere with characters from Sesame Street, Peanuts, and Hello Kitty.
