With Universal Studios Japan’s Halloween event requiring no additional ticketing for its haunted attractions, USJ introduced the “Otana Halloween” (Adult Halloween) label in 2018 to bring attention to the fact that an experience within the park was a part of the Halloween Horror Nights™ event. Likewise, the “Kowa Kawa Halloween” designation existed to inform park-goers that the area they were entering was “safe” and family-friendly. This year, Halloween Horror Nights™ scaled up by introducing the “Screaming Halloween” flag to indicate that the attraction was more “extreme.” Generally speaking, all of the haunted houses and thrill rides were considered “Screaming,” while shows and other entertainment were considered “adult (except for Sadako – that was TERRIFYING). USJ also introduced its first “horror restaurant,” Parkside Grill-The Cursed Rose’s Banquet, where one could "immerse themselves in a beautiful nightmare while enjoying the delicious food.” The Cursed Rose offered a decaying garden with unique photo opportunities for “the 'gram.”
