With a website that ominously wondered, “Who are the 13?”, Howl-O-Scream ushered in its lucky 13th year with a murderer’s row of murderers. Each represented a different evil, a different familiar flavor of horror. Clowns. Butchers. Incarcerated madmen and even madder doctors. The 13 characters weaved the houses and scare zones together while also providing a scavenger hunt of sorts to any guests brave enough to keep their eyes open. The roaming hordes were downplayed slightly in favor of three traditional zones. Added DJ booths and a newly open-air club turned Howl-O-Scream into more of a party than ever before. After two years at six, seven haunted houses were included with admission and the upcharge house received its first retheming as The Experiment. For the first time ever, fans could vote on design choices for a haunted house, in this case the brand-new Death Water Bayou.
