After years without a solitary mascot to grace its billboards, Howl-O-Scream enlisted Robin Cowie, producer of The Blair Witch Project, to create a blockbuster icon. Scarlett, a devil-horned healer buried beneath Busch Gardens and soured in its soil, presided over the entire park, as well as the Howl-O-Screams at Busch Gardens Williamsburg and SeaWorld San Antonio. Her haunted house - Unearthed - doubled as the event’s subtitle. Like the previous year, seven houses were included with admission, though only Scarlett’s was brand new. For the first time since 2010, no upcharge attraction was built in the park. As a new tradition, the bumper cars were turned into Crash Test Zombies, with costumed actors taking the place of enemy drivers. Club Unearthed would be the last dedicated nightclub at Howl-O-Scream.
